A journey rooted in craftsmanship and tradition
The story of The Wood Cave began in Scotland, where our founder, Gordon, discovered a love for woodworking alongside his grandad. Together, they crafted clocks, guitars, tables, and dollhouses, sparking a lifelong passion for creating meaningful, handmade furniture. What began as a childhood interest evolved into a deep commitment to mastering the art of bespoke and made-to-measure furniture making, laying the foundation for The Wood Cave.
Inspired by the world, handcrafted in Surrey
Years of travelling through Africa, Asia, and Australia shaped Gordon’s distinctive woodworking approach. From mastering Japanese techniques in Kyoto to working with Australian timbers, every culture influenced his craft. In Sydney, a heartfelt desire to craft a clock for his newborn son sparked a business celebrating custom furniture made with care and precision. Clients quickly spread the word, recommending Gordon’s bespoke designs.
Returning home to create timeless furniture
After years abroad, Gordon and his family moved to Surrey, bringing with them a wealth of woodworking expertise and global influences. He founded The Wood Cave to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern design, offering custom solid wood furniture as a meaningful alternative to mass production. With 16 sustainably sourced wood options or custom timber requests, each piece is uniquely tailored to your vision.
